Ethical Clothing

Ethical clothing describes clothing made by workers who are paid a living wage, with good working conditions and fair working hours (30-40 per week). I’m really proud to work with an NGO in India who make the dungarees, patchwork skirts and bell sleeve tops for seasonsofella. I travelled to India in 2018 I visited the clothing project in Jaipur and stayed with the founders for a wonderful 2 weeks. They teach tailoring skills to women from disadvantaged ‘slum’ areas of Jaipur and pay them fair wages as well as healthcare and access to adult education. The women are also welcome to bring their babies to work with them and they’re looked after as a collective by the women of the group. Children from these mothers and from the same ‘slum’ area attend a small school, whereby they get a meal and healthcare as well as education. The profits made from selling clothes goes back into funding the school to get more disadvantaged children off the streets and into education. This is a very small project of about 15 women, they were effected badly by the Covid-19 pandemic and lock-downs in India, as well as a lack of tourism. They are hoping to begin growing the project again now. If you would like to find out more this is a link to their website - Saksham NGO or watch this video which my partner made during our time there.
